Have you gotten yourself enrolled for a clinical rotation in a medical school? If so, avoiding the following mentioned common mistakes will help you boost your career in an impeccable manner.
Showing up late: This behavior has often shown by many and often many students seem to think it is insignificant. People notice when you're late. It's unprofessional and disrespectful to the rest of the group. Traffic is not an excuse, you can leave early enough to reach the hospital on time with some spare time for yourself.
Performing a procedure without having been authorized to do so: You will find yourself in deep trouble with the doctor, hospital, and potentially a courtroom if the resident walks in on you placing a central line on a patient without their authorization. Remember one wrong step can risk your job and might another person's life.
Forgetting you are in a hospital: We spend so many hours in the hospital that it's easy to forget that we are surrounded by very ill, helpless, and frightened people. Never forget the patient’s lives are in your hands when you are assigned to take care of them.
Disrespecting the nurses: Seriously, this is a huge no-no. They serve their job too and any person grudges will make your life miserable if you make the nurses hate you. Instead, befriend every nurse you meet if you want to enjoy your time at the hospital.
Dressing inappropriately: Dressing appropriately is important and applies to men as well as women both. The hospital is not a place to dress provocatively as there's a time and a place for everything.
Being a slacker: By putting in time and effort, you can learn a lot and become an incredible doctor. But people with a ridiculous amount of money end up being a crappy doctor. Thus it’s better to avoid being a slacker.
These are a few common mistakes that you must avoid during your clinical rotations in medical school.
